General meeting for STRs and ADUs – what you need to know

November 1, 2023

Fayette County Neighborhood Council General Meeting

6:30 Monday Evening, November 13, Tates Creek Christian Church, 3150 Tates Creek Road; doors open at 6:10 p.m.

SHORT-TERM RENTALS (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.); ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS

 Dear Neighbors,

Fayette County Neighborhood Council (FCNC) has decided to have a follow-up general membership meeting on Short-Term rental (STR) properties following passage and beginning implementation of the new short-term rental ordinance.  We also will discuss the proposed new ADU ordinance which passed in the Planning Commission last week.  Our intent will be to allow enough time for your questions and answers.

·       We want to make sure everyone understands what is in the STR ordinance and how it will work.  The discussion will include a second Division of Revenue ordinance where much of the enforcement authority and all of the licensing will exist.

·       We will explain why Lexington needs an ordinance and the process used to put it together and pass it.

·       We hope also to give pointers on how to prepare for a Board of Adjustment hearing on whether to grant an STR conditional use permit.

·       We hope to conclude with a list of changes needed in the short-term rental ordinance and suggestions on how to proceed in the future.

We will report also on what is in the ADU ordinance and potential problems with it.  In the near future the ADU ordinance will be sent to the Urban County Council for consideration and voting on its passage.  Citizen participation is allowed in these meetings with the Council.

Thanks!  Please attend.
