Save the Date May 9: General Meeting on Housing in Lexington

Dear Neighbors:

The Fayette County Neighborhood Council will have a General Meeting, on Monday evening, May 9, at Tates Creek Christian Church beginning at 6:30. Please save the date!

Charlie Lanter, the Commissioner of the new Department of Housing Advocacy and Community Development, is our invited guest. Last year Commissioner Lanter was named first Commissioner of Housing Advocacy and Community Development, which includes divisions of Affordable Housing, Homelessness Prevention & Intervention, Code Enforcement, Community & Resident Services, Historic Preservation, and Grants &  Special Programs. Previously, he was Lexington’s Director of Grants and Special Programs, managing major federal grant applications and fulfillment for housing,  community development, and other programs.  Before that, he was the city’s first Director of  Homelessness Prevention and Intervention.

The Department is new, and Commissioner Lanter is new to the job.

The programs under the new department are complex, and some of them lack agreed-upon solutions. Housing is a national problem. Many people cannot afford a house if they can find one for sale, and corporate interests are competing with prospective homeowners in the market.

This is a meeting not to miss.

Thanks!

Walt Gaffield, President

Fayette County Neighborhood Council, Inc.
