Dear Neighbors,
We are sharing information on upcoming local elections, for your information. Candidates for LFUCG District Urban County Council must file by 4 p.m. Friday January 5 for the 2024 primary, which is on Tuesday May 21.
By the County Clerk’s list, updated each Friday, incumbents in the 2nd (Shayla Lynch), 6th (Denise Gray), and 10th (David Sevigny) have filed already.
In the KREF Ky Registry of Election Finance, the following people are registered, by Council district
1st – Tyler Morton, 2nd – Lynch, 3rd – LeGris, 4th – Monarrez, 4th – Brack Marquette, 5th – Sheehan, 6th – Gray, 9th – Baxter, 10th – Sevigny, 11th – Reynolds, 12th – Hilary Boone. All are incumbents except Morton, Marquette, and Boone.
This leaves Districts 7 and 8 with no candidate yet.
Incumbents who have not filed for reelection are
1st – Fogle, 7th – Worley, 8th – Fred Brown, and 12th – Plomin; each is eligible to serve at least one more term. We understand that 7th – Worley, 8th – Fred Brown, and 12th – Kathy Plomin will not be seeking re-election.
For there to be a primary, at least 3 candidates have to file as candidates.
Candidates may get packets to run for office from the Council Clerk, with instructions and the nominating petition to sign. FCNC was unable to find this packet on line. You can find the Secretary of State’s packet of info for Council primary election candidates here.
Each candidate must gather 100 voter signatures on the nominating petition (but double that number is better, since some will be struck as invalid or illegible). The candidate must have resided in the district for at least 6 months, and signatures must be of qualified voters within the district. If a voter signs more than one petition for the same office, none of that voter’s signatures are valid.
The primary election is Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Voters must register by 4 p.m. Monday, April 22.
Please engage in the election process.
Walt Gaffield, President
Fayette County Neighborhood Council, Inc.
